Slaugh Doom

This post was inspired by Swallowing Darkness by Laurell K. Hamilton.  You see, in her book she decided to make the Slaugh heroes. I decided to wipe my Slaugh out.

It works like this…

The Slaugh of Aerth were humans who couldn’t stand the invading farmers, threatening to take their land and their way of life. The old Slaugh gods didn’t like the farmers either, because these people threatened their worshippers and what The Ancients planned for them. So when the Fay came with the offer of a new home where the farmers couldn’t go and threaten decent hunter/gatherers, the Slaugh were more that ready to join the Fay.

Now the Slaugh are trapped, because Phaeree is eager to help the Slaugh be Slaugh. Slaugh to the point the Slaugh have neerly forgotten what is like to be human, and independent creatures. While not as bad off as the ogres, who are effectively pre-sapient, still the Slaugh cannot act on their own behalf, of their own volition.

Thus they will not be one of those peoples returning to Aerth when the Great Return begins, but they will be independent enough for another few generations to seek to interfer with the Return and seek to trap others on Phaeree with them.

The Slaugh of Phaeree are lost, can they be stopped from damning others with them?

Then You Read Some More

On the matter of the  Shamash I got a few things wrong. So let us look at them again.

Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner.

Exactly when the gnomes started returning to Aerth is a open question. Some say it was back as <2000, others say as late as 500. As far as I know the gnomes started exploring the situation on Aerth around <500, and substantial migration to Aerth began sometime between <15-35.

At first they were going to migrate to one location, but the chaotic conditions back then told them that such a move was not optimal. Instead they decided on three locations, what would one day be; Paris in Francia, Munich in Germania, and Budapest in Hungary. They made themselves known to the humans, took up residence among them, and made themselves useful.

In short time gnomish skills at craftwork and business made them reliable people to depend upon, and led to numerous agreements and partnerships between Man and Gnome. The gnomes also made sure to colonize pretty much around the world, that way they could avoid any attempt by their larger neighbors to render them extinct.

Then Shamash met Gnome, and that story gets to wait for another time.

The Best Laid Plans of Gods and Men

One thing the reader may have noticed is that Aerth has no Jews. Aerth has an equivalent to the Jews, the gnomes, but no Jews. This is the story of why and how.

New Neighbors.

For the new version of Mythus Ive decided to have all the fey return to Aerth. Except for a few they all decided that Phaeree wasn’t such a hot idea after all, and maybe Aerth isn’t such a bad place with all those humans running around (and the gnomes seems to be doing fine).

But they won’t be returning all at once, that will occur during a series of adventures (which will have suggestions for you to make the adventures your own. Plus suggestions for preludes and aftermaths).

So how did the fey come to flee Aerth?
